Minutes
Paneteleyev Nominations
- Reps get to decide based on nominations and the letter of the award
- Should get done when we can (we’ll get back to this at the end of the meeting)
- Revisited and decided
JP Student Video
- Request for APO to put together a JP recruitment video to send to undergrad institutions (goal: appeal for higher diversity in applicant pool)
- Video is geared toward recruitment rather than accepted students
- Can live on the website; and the intent is to proactively send it out to other places/institutions for sharing in different communities
- Several students leading the charge; we should anticipate seeing a request in the next few weeks
- Currently they have a draft of a letter about the purpose of the video and a draft of the storyboard of the video
- Looking for us to cosign the letter; they will send it along to us for us to co-sign (aim is to send the letter by the 18th)
JP Kayaks
- Relatively large request; check-in about concerns
- Probably biggest concern is safety, and making sure we have everything in place to make an expanded fleet or large outings as safe as possible
- Current system seems easy to “blow-off” or not take seriously; it is worth spending a little time adjusting the training to actually encourage safety
- Unclear how we would enforce/encourage training for students; Kalina is willing to look into some options
- Training would likely increase the approachability of the kayaks too, and maybe this makes expanding the fleet more attractive
- Could consider looking into an automated form for checkout-checkin for increased emergency response readiness (Victoria can take point on this)
- Can provide information about the current weather and temperature
- Can provide emergency numbers
- Can ask for rough route and timeline
- CCs kayak tzar and reps
- At the minimum, having a physical check-in is a really good idea
- Maybe want to invest in safety equipment (like a radio)
- Could check-in with Susan/Stephanie about using a corner of the bike shed for charging something like that
- Maybe invest in an otter box so that cellphones can be safely brought
- We will likely approve the request, but want to keep working with her to improve the safety of the program
- Lea is going to check-in with APO first, so that if there are further concerns raised there then we can consider those
- Need to also confirm with Mallory that she will help with the safety system
- We will also recommend the additional gear
- Kalina and Lauren to start looking at safety resources
Update on Virtual Activities
- Mostly just Jelly talks as the outcome of the virtual activity form (paint nights are still happening though!)
- We’ll keep sponsoring the Jelly talks through the summer
- Allowing presenters to bring family/friends for their talk for now
- Maybe resend the virtual form (will send with Jelly talk reminder this coming week)
Update on Generals Care Packages
- Bio stuff is ordered and zoom talk is scheduled
- Chem has care packages mostly dispersed
- PO care packages are coming in a week before the exam
- AOPE generals aren’t happening this semester
- MC&G has one student taking generals; and Lauren/Kalina will follow-up
JP Swag Update
- Timeline is progressing well
- Need to make sure that all the logos are “legal”
- Will ask the committee to choose top 5 for everyone to vote on
Confirm Status as Student Group with ASA
- Rui is handling it; make sure to fill in the membership form
